This started in a backyard. Buying a box, selling a box, helping a neighbour work out whether their skis would fit — and doing it out of a driveway until, eventually, we got politely asked to stop doing it out of the driveway.
That was the push we needed. Today we run a dedicated location in Hooksett with a real inventory, a workbench, and a shelf of replacement parts. More than 300 boxes have gone out the door, and over 375 five-star reviews have come back. This autumn we are taking the next step: a new line of boxes is joining the lineup.
Why we are adding a line
Our used inventory has always been the heart of the shop, and it is not going anywhere — it is the best value on the floor and we will keep saying so. But buying used has one structural limitation: we can only sell what comes in.
When somebody arrives with an unusual crossbar spread, a very short roof, or a need for a specific length this weekend, the honest answer has occasionally been "not today". A consistent new line closes that gap. It means that whatever walks through the door, we have something that fits it.
What the new line adds
- Coverage across the size range, so the short-roof hatchback and the family hauling four pairs of skis both have an option in stock.
- Predictable availability. Used stock is what it is on any given week. A new line means we can say yes to a specific size without waiting for one to come in on trade.
- Parts we can actually get. Stocking a line means stocking its seals, locks, keys and mounting hardware — for years, not just for the sale.
- A clean comparison. New and used, side by side in the same lot, fitted to your car, so you can see exactly what the difference buys you.
What is not changing
The part we care about most stays exactly the same. Every box still comes with the whole service, not just the shell:
- Help working out the right size for your vehicle and your gear, before you spend anything.
- A test fit on your car — crossbar spread, hatch clearance and all.
- Installation, usually the same day by appointment.
- Replacement parts when something wears out down the road.
- Trade-in credit when it is time for the next one.
And used stays the recommendation whenever it is the better buy. If you want the reasoning, we wrote it out in why a used roof box is usually the smarter buy. A bigger new lineup does not change that maths — it just means we can help the people the used stock could not.
The same idea, more of it
The mission has not moved since the backyard: make it easier to get out. Whether that is ski season in the Whites, a family vacation, or a road trip that needs more room than the trunk has, the goal is that you leave with the right box, fitted properly, and know where to come back to when you need a part.
Growing the lineup is how we say yes more often. Come by and have a look.
